Three Convicted in Terror-Related Cases Later Granted U.S. Citizenship by Obama Administration CNS

(CNSNews.com) — Three people convicted of crimes as a result of a terrorism-related investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) were later naturalized as U.S. citizens by the Obama administration, according to federal auditors.

Staff members of GAO’s Homeland Security and Justice team who worked on the audit told CNSNews.com in an e-mail that the three individuals were naturalized as U.S. citizens under President Barack Obama.

“One of the individuals was naturalized in late 2009.  The other two were naturalized in 2010,” says the e-mail from the GAO.

“Based upon our analysis of USCIS and DOJ data, three of the individuals on the DOJ list received U.S. citizenship after their convictions,” stated the GAO audit report. “Two were convicted of unlawful production of an identity document and one was convicted of transferring funds out of the country in violation of U.S. sanctions.”

“An individual applying for naturalization must demonstrate good moral character for a statutory period of time–from 5 years preceding the application up to admission to citizenship,” added the GAO. “This includes not having been convicted of crimes, such as murder, rape, drug trafficking, or other aggravated felonies prior to or during that period, as well as not having been convicted of other crimes during that period, such as certain drug offenses or convictions that led to 180 days or more of prison time.”

U.S. Attorney says Justice Department will challenge Missouri anti-Sharia law

No state would be contemplating anti-Sharia laws were it not for Sharia’s political and supremacist aspects, and its elements that are at variance with Constitutional freedoms — notably, its denial of the freedom of speech and the freedom of conscience, and of equality of rights for women and non-Muslims. But it is doubtful in the extreme that the Obama Justice Department will give the anti-Sharia side a fair hearing. It will rule that such laws violate religious freedom, without considering Sharia’s political aspects in any way.

​U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri Richard Callahan visited the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis last night to address the fears and frustrations of Muslim Americans who worry they are being racially profiled and wiretapped — and to assure them that the Missouri Legislature’s attempts to ban Sharia law from being considered in state courts here could face Constitutional challenges.Seated in front of a large Muslim audience during a town hall-style meeting at the Ballwin mosque, Callahan anchored a panel that included fellow federal attorneys (one of whom was Muslim American), as well as three members of the FBI.

The tenor of the night was polite and respectful, but several members of the crowd expressed anger over what they perceive to be rising trends of Islamophobia in America over the past couple years, citing people burning the Koran and communities banning mosques as examples.

“There is a worse kind of Muslim hatred recently,” said Adil Imdad, one of the event’s organizers. “Especially in the last two years, Islamophobia and fear-mongering have been spreading like wildfire, and it’s causing a lot of stress for our youth.”

Funny thing, Imdad: jihad terrorism and Islamic supremacism are causing non-Muslim Americans a lot of stress.

The problem is now hitting a little closer to home, said Imdad, pointing to three bills currently circulating through the state legislature that seek to limit Sharia law (Islamic law) in Missouri courts. Sharia law could come into play in rulings considering child custody or prisoner rights for Muslims. As we’ve reported, the bills have become a source of controversy.Callahan responded by hinting that, should anti-Sharia legislation get passed by the Missouri Legislature, it could be overturned by the federal courts. “The Department of Justice has a good history of challenging laws passed by state legislatures,” he said. “If some laws are passed, I think you will see challenges by the federal government on the constitutionality of them.”…

Zia Faruqui, the Muslim American attorney on the panel, spoke to the crowd using several Arabic phrases, encouraging them to avoid hiding. He defended the justice system, citing 50 prosecutions in recent years against people charged with anti-Muslim crimes.

A marriage made in hell

So Molotov and Ribbentrop are alive and well and living in Gaza and Ramallah. The pact between Fatah and Hamas is of course a marriage of convenience, forged solely to help fool the world into accepting a de facto state of Palestine. If such a pact were to last, then of course it would mean the end of Mahmoud Abbas and the economic and social progress that has been made in Ramallah and environs; these would be replaced by the Iranian satrapy of Hamastan, political dissidents thrown off the tops of tall buildings and women subjected to sexual terrorism and Islamic subjugation.
The fact is that Ramallah wants Gaza to be part of ‘Palestine’ like it wants a hole in the head. The point of the exercise for Abbas is merely to finesse the sticky question of whether ‘Palestine’ will include Gaza, and thus enable Whitehall, Foggy Bottom and Brussels to pretend that Hamas has now decided to stop being genocidal fanatics and become instead liberal democrats keen to show off how many friends they have on Facebook (just like all those nice al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood rebels in Libya and Egypt). But instead Hamas would swallow the PA, and Ramallah would kiss goodbye to the good life it has been belatedly discovering is distinctly preferable to never-ending war and economic and social enslavement.
Meanwhile, there are already calls from members of Congress to end US funding of the PA because of this pact, on the grounds that it is unconscionable for American money to be used to subsidise Hamas because of its open ambition to destroy Israel and the genocidal Jew-hatred of its foundational Charter (it’s a shame the same objections are not made to using western money to fund the incitement by PA-controlled media, preachers and teachers to hate Jews and murder Israelis, but let’s skip lightly over that for now). Germany’s Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has reiterated his country could never deal with Hamas; U.S. National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said it would only back a Palestinian government

‘on terms which promote the cause of peace…Hamas, however, is a terrorist organisation which targets civilians.’

Far from leveraging a state of Palestine, this pact could in fact mean therefore that such a state runs headlong into the sand — even before Abbas drives it into the cul-de-sac of a unilateral declaration that destroys his ability to bargain over its terms. Could it be that, to paraphrase the immortal words of Abba Eban about the Arabs in general, the Palestinians are demonstrating once again how they never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity?
Of course, a significant faction within Whitehall, Foggy Bottom and Brussels has been pushing for years for Hamas to be brought in from the cold, on the basis that there can be no solution without it. In fact, Hamastan would more likely only lead to a Final Solution. The idea that genocidal fanatics+genocidal pragmatists=Jeffersonian democrats and peace in our time in the Middle East is merely the morally debauched anti-reasoning which passes for educated opinion in the west.

Good News: Comcast Slams Door on Al-Jazeera

Andrea Mitchell, NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent, will no doubt be disappointed at the announcement.

In good news for the American people but bad news for NBC’s Andrea Mitchell, a vice president for Comcast is now on the record saying that the cable giant is not negotiating to carry the terror TV channel Al-Jazeera in more U.S. media markets.

“We do not have an agreement with this service that would permit us to carry Al Jazeera English on our cable systems and Comcast is not currently in active talks to complete such an agreement,” says David A. Jensen, Vice President for Content Acquisition at Comcast. His April 15 letter was in response to an Accuracy in Media supporter by the name of Jeffrey Smith, who had sent a letter to the cable company objecting to the possibility of al-Jazeera getting more carriage. Smith made the Comcast letter available to us for publication at this time.

Andrea Mitchell, NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent, will no doubt be disappointed at the announcement. She recently told the Atlantic, “I think Al-Jazeera has become indispensable. There’s a big difference between Al-Jazeera overseas and Al-Jazeera English but they are clearly part of the story and I rely on them very heavily, as does the State Department. I think the channel ought to be available more widely in the U.S. given the work they’ve been doing in Tunisia, Libya and certainly Egypt.”

While Al-Jazeera English does water down the anti-Semitic and pro-Jihad programming available on Al-Jazeera Arabic, the channels are owned by the same autocrat, the Emir of Qatar. And the “work” the channel has been doing in countries like Egypt mostly consists of provoking and covering riots and demonstrations. At the same time, the channel played down the role of the demonstrators in assaulting CBS News reporter Lara Logan, who suffered serious injuries.

At the news that Mitchell wants to see the channel’s influence expand, a blogger at www.fireandreamitchell.com commented, “Why am I not surprised? NBC/MSNBC hack Andrea Mitchell loves her Al Jazeera. The anti-America, anti-Semitic network has suddenly become the choice for far left progressive liberals. Hillary Clinton loves Al Jazeera, Obama and his State Department love the network, why wouldn’t she? NBC is basically an arm of the Obama regime anyway.”

By contrast, Huffington Post blogger Michael Calderone is an enthusiastic backer of the Arab government-funded network. He reports that while the network is “taking steps to move further into the mainstream U.S. journalistic establishment,” it is also planning to open two new domestic bureaus this year—in Chicago and Miami—and has announced a journalism fellowship with Columbia University that will send two graduate students to Doha, Qatar each year.

Indeed, in what has been described as “the first partnership between Al Jazeera English and a university in the United States,” Nicholas Lemann, Dean of the Columbia Journalism School, said that the journalism fellows will work in the Al-Jazeera English newsroom for 12 weeks, reporting directly to senior members of the news and programming departments. They apparently will be paid by the same regime that finances Al-Jazeera itself.

The announcement makes no mention of the fact that the channel is funded by the regime in Qatar and has developed a reputation over the years as a mouthpiece for terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah.

Lemann is a former correspondent for The Washington Post, while the president of Columbia University, Lee C. Bollinger, is a member of the board of The Washington Post Company.

Calderone adds, “Al Jazeera English doesn’t just want to partner with journalism schools, where a new generation of reporters are honing their craft. It also hopes to become increasingly a part of conversations stateside about the future of the media—whether online, on cable, or on social media platforms. Next month, Al Jazeera English is holding its first U.S. forum, a two-day event at the Newseum. Its topic: ‘The new age of journalism.’”

If this is the case, it would mark a new and radical departure for the Newseum, a privately-funded entity that celebrates the First Amendment and the separation of state and press. By contrast, Al-Jazeera is completely state-funded and refuses to subject its sponsoring regime in Qatar to any serious scrutiny. If this is the model for the “new age of journalism,” news consumers around the world are destined to be the losers.

Nevertheless, armed with the seemingly unlimited petro dollars of the Emir of Qatar, Al-Jazeera continues to demand carriage in U.S. media markets and has published a list of articles from the U.S. press about its desire for respectability.

The Huffington Post alone has published eight articles on behalf of the channel, including one titled, “Jews for Al-Jazeera.” The author is identified as a political strategist, writer, and humorist.

Muslim Liars: How the Muslim Students Association Deceives the Naive

The Muslim Students Association is a national organization with chapters on hundreds of U.S. campuses. It has a privileged position on these campuses such that no student paper would print the statement that follows in this blog. It would be regarded as “offensive to an ethnic and religious group.” What is truly offensive are the subterfuges under which the MSA operates, lying about its core mission — which is to advance the Islamic jihad against the Jews and Christians of the Middle East, and ultimately against the United States. Unfortunately the lies of the MSA (like its sister organizations CAIR and the Muslim American Society) are successful in snookering the willing accomplices of the political left and the unwitting accomplices of the inattentive middle to support and protect them.

Here is the deceptive Mission Statement of the Muslim Students Association at UC San Diego, where I confronted one of its members last year who endorsed the extermination of the Jews (and was defended by the MSA for doing so):

“The purpose of the Muslim Student Association 
of the University of California, San Diego
is to provide an environment for the development and networking
 of Muslims on campus while fostering a sense of community between Muslims and non-Muslims through education.”

This is an organization that sponsors Israel Apartheid weeks, sponsors Israel-hating speakers, advances the false and genocidal claim that that Israel exists on land stolen from a mythical “Palestine” that never existed and promotes the propaganda of the Muslim Brotherhood, creator of Hamas and spiritual guide of al Qaeda. Its “education” consists of informing the gullible that Islam means “peace” (actually it means “submission”) and that “terrorism is, in fact, a term that spans the entire world and manifests itself in various forms,” and is, in fact, a term applicable to “sanctions” (e.g., the sanctions against Iran to prevent its dictators from developing nuclear weapons. The MSA site directs the inquisitive who want to understand Islam (and Islam’s relation to terrorism) to a site called WhyIslam.org — a site that happens to be sponsored by the Islamic Circle of North America, which like the MSA itself, is a creation of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Unfortunately this transparent double talk is enough to snooker gullible university administrators, faculty and students into regarding the jihad-supporting MSA chapters as religious and cultural organizations, while providing them with special privileges and protections. This allows them to conduct their war against the Jews and Crusaders in the heart of America’s educational institutions. The main Jewish organization on campus, Hillel, joined forces with this arm of the Muslim Brotherhood to attack the “Palestinian Wall of Lies” which our students put up at Brown, Florida State and the University of North Carolina, to refute the lies of the anti-Israel, anti-American left and the Nazis of Hamas — a sister organization of the MSA.

Largest National Security Grassroots Advocacy Group Calls on President Obama to Fire Attorney General Eric Holder

(Washington, DC)—Today, ACT! for America, the nation’s largest grassroots advocacy group for national security and terrorism related issues launched a nation wide effort to pressure President Obama to Fire Attorney General Eric Holder.

“He does not represent the values or ideals of the America people and it is time for him to GO!” said Brigitte Gabriel, two time NY Times best selling author and founder and president of ACT! for America. “His actions are putting Americans at risk!” she said.

Citing a growing list of missteps, irregularities, allegations and misguided policy decisions by the Attorney General, ACT! for America launched a national poll for all Americans to weigh in and join the movement to dump Eric Holder.

The poll, available at www.actformerica.org is aimed at building a list of Americans who agree with ACT! for America that Eric Holder must go.

Specifically, the group cites Holder’s role in the decision to close Gitmo, his failed attempt to try 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed in civilian court, his failure to prosecute the Black Panther Party for voter intimidation and his adoption of the Obama Administration lexicon (language) change in addressing issues of radical Islam, as grounds for his dismissal.

ACT! for America is also announcing a national push to lobby members of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees to launch a full scale investigation into recent allegations leveled by a DOJ whistleblower, claiming that the top officials at the DOJ ordered the US Attorney in Dallas, TX to withdraw pending terror finance indictments, last year, against several national Islamic groups with ties to the Obama White House.

Federal judge rules terror-linked CAIR, other Muslims can’t see FBI files

SANTA ANA, Calif. — A federal judge ruled Wednesday that a group of Muslim activists and organizations cannot review additional records of FBI inquiries into their activities but berated the government for misleading the court about the existence of the files.

U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney said six Muslim groups and five individuals who sued in 2007 to gain access to records they believed the FBI was keeping do not have a right to much of the information because of national security concerns.

The ruling came amid a nearly five-year battle by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Muslim activists to obtain files they believe would show the FBI has been unlawfully targeting Muslims in Southern California.

Carney reached his decision after privately reviewing more than 100 pages of documents to ensure the government had complied with Freedom of Information laws in denying access to plaintiffs.

In his 18-page ruling, Carney declined to reveal the number or nature of the records the FBI kept on the plaintiffs, citing national security concerns.

He also reached the conclusion that federal government attorneys initially misled the court about the existence of the documents.

The case is one of several that highlight widespread concern among Muslim-Americans that the FBI has been spying on them.

Such concerns were heightened in 2009 when an FBI agent testified in court that an informant had been planted at an Islamic Center in Orange County. The informant provided information about the brother-in-law of Osama bin Laden’s bodyguard, who was arrested on charges of lying on his citizenship application. The government later dropped the charges.

In 2007, the Muslim activists and organizations, including the Islamic Shura Council and Council on American-Islamic Relations, sued the FBI alleging the agency failed to turn over records they had requested a year earlier related to their own activities.

The FBI released some records to the plaintiffs but redacted large portions of the documents, claiming the material was beyond the scope of their Freedom of Information Act request.

In 2009, Carney told the FBI to turn over the files to him so he could determine whether there was a valid reason for the redactions. He also ordered the agency to expand its records search for CAIR and its executive director for the greater Los Angeles area since only four pages of files had been produced.

Carney reviewed those files and wrote an order that was going to be made public, but was blocked by a federal government appeal.

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last month that Carney should rewrite his order to remove references considered sensitive by the federal government.

Ahilan Arulanantham, deputy legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union in Southern California, said he was disappointed by the judge’s ruling and concerned about the government’s behavior.

No concern over the government’s refusal to indict Hamas-linked CAIR though.

Despite Reports of Brutality Toward Civilians, Syria to Join U.N.’s Human Rights Council FOX NewsThe brutal crackdown by Syrian President Bashar Assad may finally be getting the attention of world leaders — but apparently not enough to stop Syria from becoming the newest member of the U.N. Human Rights Council.

And despite calling for an independent investigation into the crackdown, which has left hundreds dead, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon apparently won’t do much about blocking Syria’s path to the human rights group.

“That’s not really for the secretary general to suggest to a member state,”  said Martin Nesirky, a spokesman for the secretary-general, when asked if the U.N. chief would ask Syria to drop out of the running for the post. When asked if Ban had brought up the point during his telephone conversation April 9 with Assad, Nesirsky told Fox News, “that’s not really something the secretary general would raise specifically, because it’s for other member states to decide on the membership of the Human Rights Council.”

Ammar Abdulhamid, a Syrian human rights activist based in Washington, called on the secretary-general “to have a greater sense of decency and courage, and to realize that his position gives him a certain moral authority and puts him exactly in the position to tell the Assads that their candidacy at this stage is unwelcome.” Abdulhamid was forced to flee Syria in 2005 following criticism of the Assad regime, and still finds himself under attack by the regime. His website was recently hacked and now posts the latest videos and news on his blog (http://syrianrevolutiondigest.blogspot.com).

A State Department spokesman last week said the U.S. would oppose Syria’s bid to the Human Rights Council, calling it “inappropriate and hypocritical.” But it would seem Syria is virtually guaranteed a seat, having been selected as one of four candidates for the Asian bloc.

While no Asian state is known to be looking to challenge Syria, Rupert Colville, the spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, told Fox News that, “clearly it’s an issue being discussed among the States and obviously depends on whether other countries in the Asian group put themselves up as a candidate.” Asked if the U.N.’s Human Rights supremo, who has condemned the violence in Syria, would get involved, he echoed the words of Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman, telling Fox News: “It’s a matter for the States.”

Anne Bayefsky, a senior fellow with the Hudson Institute and an expert on Human Rights issues at the U.N., tells Fox News that “Syria knows a good deal when it sees it and the like-minded countries in the Asian regional group that nominated Syria are just as enthusiastic about the U.N.’s idea of a “human rights” body. So the question for the Obama administration is not how do we keep Syria out, but why is the United States in?” She believes that the administration is working hard to keep Syria from gaining a seat “but for all the wrong reasons — namely, to save the spectacle of an American foreign policy outsourced to the U.N.”

Column in Palestinian Authority Daily: No Apology For Joseph’s Tomb Shooting In his April 25, 2011 column in the Palestinian Authority daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, published the day after the shooting outside Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus in which Ben Yosef Livnat, nephew of Israeli Culture and Sport Minister Limor Livnat, was killed, Osama Al-Fara considered whether Livnat, who together with friends had entered the site without permission or coordination, had been shot by a Palestinian police officer or by Israeli Defense Force (IDF) troops positioned nearby. Either way, he said, the Palestinian police officer had done his duty. He also noted that that the Palestinians had lost patience with the Israeli settlers’ provocations, which he claimed were being protected by the IDF and were part of Israel’s general policy of settlement expansion, and added that the Palestinians were entitled to defend themselves in all possible ways. The following are excerpts from his column: “Joseph’s Tomb, whether it is [the tomb of] an honest man named Joseph, or, as it says in the Torah, [the tomb of] our master Joseph the righteous, has been a point of contention, and this contention has greatly escalated in recent years. The settlers, with their repeated visits to the tomb, have not ceased provoking [us] in every manner, under a framework of lawbreaking whose characteristics are compatible with a barbarism unparalleled in history. “The village of Burin near [the tomb] has become a daily eyewitness [to this]. The story [here] concerns a Palestinian police officer who fired in the air towards a vehicle that approached the compound of Joseph’s Tomb to break the law, and when [its driver] refused to obey [the policeman’s orders], he opened fire on it. “Even if the Israeli military position nearby began shooting, and whether the man killed was hit by the Palestinian police officer or by friendly fire, we must stress that the Palestinian police officer was doing his job, in accordance with its basic rules – because his missions there dictate to him to do nothing less than what he did – and his actions are worthy of the honor and esteem of all. “So that there are no attempts to smear him, and us, with charges of terrorism and incitement, it must be noted that this officer’s conduct is identical to that of any police officer in the most democratic capitals in the world, and those which most honor human rights – where it is part of the main mission of a police officer. “The occupation government has in the past asked the [Palestinian] Authority to renovate Joseph’s Tomb [following] the damages [it incurred] during the events of 2000… Even if we need no endorsement from the occupation government [to confirm] our responsibility for the site, [this request] is tantamount to such an endorsement. Therefore, no one, whoever he may be – particularly the nephew of the Israeli minister – is entitled to come to the compound of [Joseph’s] Tomb and create the uproar [that the settlers] customarily spread by sowing horror and fear there. “Perhaps this Joseph’s Tomb incident will bring us to face a fact: The occupation government must be the first to know that our patience with the lawbreaking by the herds of settlers has run out. If the occupation army cannot stop their arrogance, their lawbreaking, and their spreading of fear and horror amongst the Palestinian children, we have the right to oppose this in a way that is in accordance with our capabilities and by means that will defend the sons of our people against [the settlers’] barbarism. “This time, the occupation government should not expect condemnation of the incident [by us]. We will not throw [the Palestinian police officer] into a pit [as Joseph’s brothers did to him]. If they don’t want a recurrence of this incident, they must put an end to the hooliganism of their herds [of settlers], and remove their sheep pens [i.e. the settlements] from our midst.” Posted by: MEMRI
