Which nations does Psalm 83 really include?

[Editor’s Note: This does not necessarily entail the beliefs, thoughts, or theories of the local Act chapters or the National Act office…they are my beliefs, thoughts and/or theories. This is a re-blog of an old article, but it is a prophecy…I do go on about this prophecy a lot, but it is because I want people to understand that the end time is coming close, and the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God will be coming again quickly with the prophecies being fulfilled…looking at the signs of the times, this will happen, in my opinion, in about year to a year and a half…that part isn’t a prophecy, it’s just a guess…this will happen before the Gog and Magog War (Ezekiel 38 -39) which is coming quickly as well because Russia is starting to team up with Turkey and Iran…countries that will be participating in that prophesied war…that one should take place, once again in my guessing, about late 2016 early 2017, before Russia (as prophesied and is gearing up and planning currently) attacks America in late 2017…]

I was recently visiting with some Christian friends from Egypt, and the discussion turned toward their disappointment and disagreement with a particular view concerning the prophetic destiny of Egypt, as espoused by many American Christians these days. Because I was in complete agreement with their concerns, I thought it good to take a few moments to address them here.

Among ardent students of biblical prophecy, there is presently a popular belief that Psalm 83 predicts an imminent invasion of Israel. According to Bill Salus, author of the books “Isralestine” and “Revelation Road,” the specific nations listed in this Psalm essentially represent all of the nations that immediately surround Israel today.

The following chart represents Salus’ identification of the nations of Psalm 83:

Thus, according to this popular prophetic scenario, a coalition of nations, including Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the Palestinian peoples, will very soon join forces to attack Israel.

Further, according to Salus, Israel will overcome this attack, ultimately engaging in a conquest of these nations, occupying them and vastly expanding her borders. According to Salus:

“Because of this Israeli conquest over the inner circle of the core surrounding Arab populations of Palestinians, Syrians, Saudi Arabians, Egyptians, Lebanese, and Jordanians, Israel’s borders are enlarged, prosperity increases, and national stature is enhanced.”

Of course, for those familiar with the region, the idea of Israel actually occupying Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Saudi Arabia is quite a wild, if not a completely impossible scenario to imagine. Yet many students of prophecy have fully accepted this story line and are even eagerly anticipating its imminent fulfillment.

While there are many problems with this interpretation, on both a practical as well as an exegetical basis, one of its most glaring problems is that some of the key nations identified by Salus are simply are not supportable by the historical or biblical record.

The first nation not included in the Psalm 83 coalition is Egypt.

Although Salus identifies the Hagarenes (or Hagarites) as representing modern-day Egypt, this is simply not the case. Salus bases his identification of Egypt on the idea that “Hagar is the matriarch of the Egyptians.” But this is not historically accurate. Hagar was of Egyptian descent, but in no way is she the “matriarch” of the Egyptian people. This would be akin to me saying that because I am of Portuguese descent, I am thus the father of all of Portugal. This simply doesn’t make any sense. Such reverse genetic engineering may make for interesting science fiction, but it is not proper hermeneutics by any stretch of the imagination. Hagar was simply an Egyptian woman who migrated out of her homeland. During the life of Asaph, the author of this Psalm, in the 10th century B.C., the Hagarenes were a people who lived in the region of northern Jordan, east of Gilead. Of this, the Scriptures are quite clear:

“In the days of Saul, they (the tribe of Rueben) made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.” (1 Chronicles 5:10)

But beyond the Hagarenes, the Psalm also lists Amalek as one of the offending parties. Salus identifies Amalek as correlating to the Sinai Peninsula and thus Egypt. But again, if one simply examines any number of Bible atlases, he will see that the ancient land of Amalek is almost entirely contained within the borders of modern-day Israel.

The second, and third significant nations that are only partially represented in the Psalm 83 coalition are Syria and Iraq. Salus arrives at the view that both Syria and Iraq are among the Psalm 83 nations, based on the inclusion of Asshur (or Assyria). The problem with this, however, is that during the 10th century B.C., when the Psalm was written, Assyria was a region largely limited to northern Iraq, southeastern Turkey, and a smaller region of northeast Syria. But among the names that are clearly not mentioned in the Psalm 83 coalition is Aram, the capital of which was Damascus.

If, in fact, Psalm 83 represents a specific future war, then the inclusion of Assyria is a peculiar reality to ponder. Ultimately, it neither points fully to Syria nor Iraq or Turkey, but instead only a relatively smaller segment of each nation. But if the inclusion of Assyria infers the inclusion of Syria, then consistency would also mandate that Turkey be included. Yet Salus includes Syria, but not Turkey.

Another very important point must be emphasized here: When it comes to identifying the names in various Old Testament prophecies, conservative commentators and Bible scholars will almost universally advocate for utilizing the geographic-correlation method of interpretation. This method identifies the region where the particular peoples lived when the Psalm was written. It is also quite common, however, to find among untrained Bible teachers the effort to trace the migrations, intermarriages and movements of various peoples down through history in an effort to identify their modern day bloodline ancestors. This problem-fraught method of interpretation is responsible for numerous questionable prophetic beliefs, however, with Anglo-Israelism being among the most widespread and well-known.

But in considering the popular view of Psalm 83 advocated by Salus, it must be highlighted that he switches back and forth from one method to the other, from one name to another, never adhering to one method consistently. With Edom for instance, Salus uses both the ancestral-bloodline-lineage method to identify Edom as correlating to the Palestinians, but he also uses the geographic-correlation method to point to southern Jordan. On the other hand, with regard to the Ishmaelites, Salus does not use the bloodline method. Instead, he limits his identification of the Ishmaelites to modern-day Saudi Arabia. Of course, if a consistent method were used, then one would be forced to look to most of the Middle East and virtually all of northern Africa, which is largely inhabited by the Arab descendants of Ishmael today. But because using a consistent method would not work for Salus’ theory, he must switch from one method to the next from name to name.

In the end, the only modern nations solidly included in Psalm 83 are Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and the Palestinian territories. Beyond this, the Psalm also points to the limited region of northern Iraq, southeastern Turkey and the northern border of Syria. But Egypt is nowhere to be found in this Psalm.

Unfortunately, too many American Christian prophecy watchers seem to approach biblical prophecy as if it is a football game. From the comfort of their recliners, they eagerly await the ground offensive to begin as if it is were a kick-off. But for my dear friends in Egypt, these issues are much more than prophetic trivia. This is their future.

To be clear, in no way is this article intended to be a personal attack on any who hold to the popular “Psalm 83 War” theory. But for the simple sake of truth and my dear friends in Egypt, it was important to demonstrate some of the ways in which the popular view of Psalm 83 is simply not in accord with the Scriptures.

Obama-endorsed ‘Islamic Relief’ – More than a charity, a fundraising front group for Hamas

Islamic Relief USA is no different than the Holy Land Foundation, which, as the FBI proved in court, was a vehicle for funding Hamas terrorism. Several members of CAIR who were directly involved in the Holy Land funding scam, were convicted and jailed, while other leaders of CAIR, whose names you know, were labeled ‘unindicted co-conspirators.’

Frontpage Magazine Islamic Relief USA is a widely-exalted charity embraced by the Obama Regime. Islamic Relief Worldwide was founded in the United Kingdom in 1984. Its creator is Hani Al-Banna, who previously served as a trustee in Muslim Aid. Joe Kaufman documents that one of Muslim Aid’s “partner organizations” was the Al-Salah Islamic Association, a group the U.S. government labeled a Hamas front. Al-Banna’s previous group was also involved with Muslim Brotherhood affiliates like Jamaat-e-Islami.

In 1999, IRW received a $50,000 donation from Human Concern International; a group the U.S. government says is linked to Al-Qaeda. According to the NEFA Foundation, IRW is one of the founders of a network of charities called the Union of Good that was created in 2000. It was blacklisted by the U.S. Treasury Department in 2008 for its links to Hamas. The U.S. government said it was “created by Hamas leadership to transfer funds to the terrorist organization.” It is led by Sheikh Yousef al-Qaradawi, the top Muslim Brotherhood cleric who unequivocally supports Hamas and violent jihad.

IRUSA gives millions of dollars to IRW. As the Money Jihad blog shows, it gave $4.8 million in 2007, $5.9 million in 2008 and $9.4 million in 2009. There is every reason to believe that a large amount of the funds raised on June 16-17 will go to IRW. After all, IRUSA’s consolidated financial report from December 31, 2010 states, “The majority of IRUSA’s programs are administered through grants with Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW), which is based in the United Kingdom.” On page 12, it says, “During 2010, IRUSA incurred $21,849,599 in grant expenses in collaboration with IRW.”

A 2009 report by Americans for Peace and Tolerance states, “Islamic Relief USA has partnered in funding foreign projects with the Holy Land Foundation and Kind Hearts, both designated terrorist entities.

A high-level Justice Department source mentioned Islamic Relief in a conversation with counter-terrorism reporter Patrick Poole in April 2011 about U.S.-based Hamas fronts. He said, “Ten years ago we shut down the Holy Land Foundation…Then the money started going to Kind Hearts. We shut them down too. Now the money is going through groups like Islamic Relief and Viva Palestina.”

In August 2011, the White House’s website promoted an article about how the U.S. Department of Agriculture is working with IRUSA. The Department honored IRUSA that month during its third annual Iftar dinner, giving a Distinguished Community Award to Ayoub. During the National Prayer Breakfast in February 2012, President Obama boasted of how the administration included IRUSA in faith-based initiatives.

This is what happens when you put two radical Muslims into Congress. Hamas-supporter Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Andre Carson (D-IN) are both trying to ease sharia law into our country. Don’t let it happen again. Never vote for another Muslim for anything.

The Blaze  The video below depicts Muslim Congressman Andre Carson, of the 7th District of Indiana, voicing his belief that America’s school system would be improved if schools were modeled after “madrasas.” For those that don’t know, madrasas are Islamic religious schools – schools that, according to at least one State Department report, have been accused of fostering anti-American, terrorist sympathies. Specifically, the report singled out the Pakistani educational system, where madrasas are common:

No need to read the State Department report, see for yourself in this video. In just the first minute, students are physically beaten by teachers at a UK madrassa and filled with hatred for all things non-Islamic.

Now, we have Andre Carson dreaming of the first Muslim woman president of the United States, all decked out in her hijab, or maybe even her burqa.

The Blaze Congressman Andre Carson, one of two Muslims serving in congress, encouraged fellow followers of Islam to strive to train up the next generation of Muslim leaders in America. “[Muslims] have to groom the next city councilor, the next governor the future president, the first Muslim president,” he said in May at the ICNA Mosque in Hartford, CT.

Carson went on to proclaim: “It starts with us becoming motivated.  It starts with us being proud to be Muslim.”(But not proud to be American)

Then Congressman Carson went into detail over his “visionary” image of a Muslim President of the United States:

“Now brothers, I don’t mean to hurt your feelings, but that may be a sister. … Can you imagine a sister in the White House with Secret Service, with a hijab on? I don‘t know if you’re ready for that, that’s visionary right there.”

We don’t often think of Hamas and the US Government as having anything in common. But in recent days, the terrorist organization and the White House have shared a common perspective: an enthusiastic support for the result of the Egyptian presidential election.

Last week, the White House and Hamas were united in their enthusiastic congratulations to Dr. Mohamed Morsi, the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood candidate. Morsi had just been elected president, and the Western press had hailed the vote as the first free election in Egyptian history.

But free it was not. In many small towns, election officials turned away Christians from voting because they knew they would vote for the non-favored candidate. In addition, the printer of the ballots claimed he had been paid 800,000 Egyptian pounds to pre-mark nearly 2 million ballots for the Muslim Brotherhood candidate.

However, the candidate should have never been on the ballot. Last year, the Muslim Brotherhood promised to never run a candidate for president, but they didn’t keep their word. They also promised to run candidates in only some of the districts, but they didn’t keep that promise either. That is why the Egyptian Supreme Court dissolved parliament.

Those are just a few examples of how the Muslim Brotherhood made a mockery of the so-called free

election. It would have been more appropriate to call it a Hamas-like election.

During the past 16 months, I have often written about how, like Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood would hold a “one man, one vote, one time”. Islamists do not understand democracy. It is completely alien to their DNA. But to pacify naive governments and press in the West, they felt compelled to hold an election. It will be the last.

Dr. Mohamed Morsi, the newly “elected” Egyptian President, made many controversial statements in Arabic during the short campaign. Here are some of the points he made:

• Their capital shall be Jerusalem.

• They will honor international treaties, but only if the treaties serve their purpose.

• Sharia should not be feared.

• In his speech after the “election,” Morsi made it clear that he must obey Allah and apply his Sharia.

• The 11 million Christians in Egypt may stay as long as they pay the Jizya (a penalty paid by non-Muslims in an Islamic state).

One of the White House’s most tragic missteps occurred in February 2011 when one of President Obama’s national security advisors testified before Congress that the Muslim Brotherhood is a secular organization.

After spending thirty years studying Islamic groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood, I can only assume that a statement like that would make Hassan al-Banna (who founded the Muslim Brotherhood) and Said Kotob (who co-opted the principals of the Wahhabi Islamic movement into the Muslim brotherhood) turn in their graves.

Even a child can look at the Muslim Brotherhood flag, with the two crossed swords and the words, “Get Ready,” and understand that they intend to destroy any semblance of secularism.

When will the West learn that ingratiating themselves to Islamists in hope of encouraging moderation is pure ignorance? It will ultimately boomerang ever so severely. When that happens, may God have mercy on whatever is left of the West.

They only hand out sweets on the day of a very great victory, such as 9/11 or the murder of Israelis. Probably they see the latter as in the offing with the Brotherhood claim of victory in Egypt. GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Monday welcomed the claim of a Muslim Brotherhood victory in Egypt’s presidential election, distributing sweets, praising God and expressing hope for a new era of warm relations between Gaza and Egypt.

Gaza, a small, densely populated territory, borders Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. The strip’s ruling militant Hamas group is a local offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood and draws inspiration from the Egyptian organization.

As the Brotherhood claimed victory early Monday in Cairo, dozens of drivers in Gaza City honked their horns and decorated their cars with Palestinian and Egyptian flags, green Hamas banners and posters of Egypt’s Brotherhood candidate, Mohammed Morsi.

Hamas activists distributed sweets at the main intersections across Gaza, and loudspeakers at local mosques blared out messages of joy and victory. Shopkeepers in Gaza’s main commercial center eagerly followed the claim from Egypt.

“The news from Egypt is a great victory for all Muslims and for us in Gaza,” said Sameh Ramdan, a 23-year-old student and Hamas supporter….

More Incriminating Info on Radical Imam Praised by Gov. Christie

On May 28, we reported on how the New Jersey Attorney General met with three Muslim leaders to discuss his clearing of the NYPD of misconduct in its counter-terrorism efforts in N.J. These three leaders were an official from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the executive-director of the Islamic Society of Passaic County and Mohammad Qatanani, imam of the largest mosque in NJ who was praised by Governor Chris Christie when the Department of Homeland Security sought to deport him for his ties to Hamas.

Now, counter-terrorism reporter Patrick Poole is bringing attention to a July 24, 2008 report by the N.J. Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness titled, “HAMAS Sympathizers in New Jersey: Supporting Terrorism Abroad.” It was written shortly before Christie came to Qatanani’s defense. It reads:

“HAMAS supporters in this region may also be taking active leadership roles in their communities. A prominent example is Imam Mohammad Qatanani, who was well regarded in the local Palestinian community. Now, Qatanani is fighting deportation on the grounds that when he initially applied for U.S. citizenship in 1999, he may have misrepresented his ties to HAMAS. Israeli officials have presented a confession from Qatanani in which he admitted to bring a member of HAMAS. Questions regarding the Qatanani case are illustrative of the need to increase our intelligence collection vis-à-vis HAMAS, its supporters and presence in New Jersey.”

On June 24, Qatanani is scheduled to speak at Dar al-Hijrah in Virginia, a mosque with very strong connections to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. One of its former imams is Anwar al-Awlaki, who famously went on to lead Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula until he was killed by a U.S. drone strike in Yemen. Its Outreach Director, Imam Johari Abulmalik, has spoken in support of violence that doesn’t kill the “innocent.”* A 2002 Customs and Border Protection report said the mosque was “operating as a front for Hamas operatives in the U.S.”

The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, recently defied court orders to cease construction of a 53,000 square foot mega mosque. At the time of this article the ICM is building defiantly, as fast as they can. Once completed, this massive structure, we are expected to believe, is designed to accommodate only a couple hundred Muslim families, with millions of dollars in questionable financing. To say that something is a little fishy here would be an understatement.

On the Board of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro is Mosaad Rowash (r) at a Muslim American Society Camp a man named Mosaad Rowash. The purpose of this article is to ask one question and one question only: Why is a senior leader of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro posting pictures which express his overwhelming allegiance, loyalty and love for Hamas, who has been named as an Islamic terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, Canada, Japan, Israel and the entire European Union and has been responsible for countless suicide bombings and missile attacks against unarmed civilians and much more?

Here are some of the images that Mosaad Rowash posted online, to his large network of friends throughout the Islamic world:

Shown right is an image honoring Hamas leaders Ahmed Yassin, a founder of Hamas, and co-founder Abdul Aziz al-Rantissi over a crowd of armed Hamas militants.

Sheik Yassin, who was also pictured separately on Rowash’s site, was the dominant authority of the Hamas leadership and was directly involved in planning, orchestrating and launching terror attacks carried out by the organization. Rantisi (also pictured separately) was also a major Holocaust denier. According to Wikipedia, in August 2003, Al-Rantisi wrote in the Hamas newspaper Al-Risala, “It is no longer a secret that the Zionists were behind the Nazis’ murder of many Jews, and agreed to it, with the aim of intimidating them and forcing them to immigrate to Palestine.”

The logo for the Muslim Brotherhood, the father of Hamas and Al Qaeda was also featured on Rowash’s site. The founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan al-Banna said, “It is the nature of Islam to dominate, not to be dominated; to impose its law on all nations and to extend its power to the entire planet.”

In America, this organization does not go by the name “The Muslim Brotherhood.” But perhaps you may have heard of some of its front groups: Muslim Student Association (MSA), Muslim American Society (MAS), Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), North American Islamic Trust, International Institute of Islamic Thought, and several others. And they were all listed in this Muslim Brotherhood “Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Brotherhood of North America”, which states:

“The process of settlement is a ‘Civilization-Jihadist Process.’ The Muslim Brotherhood must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and Allah’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

KANSAS CITY, Kansas (Reuters) – Kansas lawmakers have passed legislation intended to prevent the state courts or agencies from using Islamic or other non-U.S. laws in making decisions, a measure critics have blasted as an embarrassment to the state.

Critics? Hamas-linked, FBI-banned, IRS-revoked, DOJ-confirmed unindicted co-conspirators to the largest terrorist financing conviction in U.S. history – those are your critics! When will the media do its &*#)ing job?

The legislation, which passed 33-3 in the state Senate on Friday and 120-0 previously in the House, is widely known in Kansas as the “Sharia bill,” because the perceived goal of supporters is to keep Islamic code from being recognized in Kansas.

The bill was sent to Republican Governor Sam Brownback, who has not indicated whether he will sign it.

In interviews on Saturday, a supporter of the bill said it reassured foreigners in Kansas that state laws and the U.S. Constitution will protect them. But an opponent said the bill’s real purpose is to hold Islam out for ridicule.

Kansas Representative Peggy Mast, a lead sponsor of the bill for the past two years, said the goal was to make sure there was no confusion that American laws prevailed on American soil.

Mast said research showed more than 50 cases around the United States where courts or government agencies took laws from Sharia or other legal systems into account in decision-making.

Commonly, they involved divorce, child custody, property division or other cases where the woman was treated unfairly, Mast said.

“I want people of other cultures, when they come to the United States, to know the freedoms they have in regard to women’s and children’s rights,” said Mast, a Republican. “An important part of this bill would be to educate them.”

Roughly 20 states have considered legislation similar to what has passed in Kansas, said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Washington. Some state legislatures, including Kansas, have passed laws that do not mention Sharia by name, he said.

Hooper said there was a movement by conservative-leaning state legislatures to introduce anti-Islam bills that have no legal foundation.

“Really, the goal seems to be (to demonize) Islam and (to marginalize) American Muslims,” Hooper said. “Some (states) have passed these watered-down bills and declared a great victory. It’s utter nonsense, but if your goal is to promote intolerance, I guess you won.”

And if Allah is your objective, the Prophet is your leader, the Qur’an is your law, jihad is your way, and dying in the way of Allah is your highest hope – then there is no place for you in the United States and you must be stopped. We won’t let you win. 

 The Kansas City area is a hotbed of Hamas support with a growing Islamic problem as we’ve noted many times.
